Human Services Cut in Governor's Budget

The Great Falls Connection reported Wednesday on citizen response to Governor McDonnell’s proposed budget cuts to social services at the annual public hearing of Fairfax County's state legislative delegation. “The Governor’s budget - a two-year $85 billion plan," reports The Connection, "is weighted in favor of transportation and higher education. But many of  the speakers said they are concerned about the hundreds of millions of dollars in proposed cuts to social services. For example, McDonnell’s budget proposes slashing %81 million form the Virginia Pre-school Initiative (VPI), which pays for pre-school programs for low-income families in Northern Virginia.”

Sen. Favola is fighting to restore the “cost of competing” dollars for Northern Virginia public K-12 school systems, a casualty of Governor McDonnell’s proposed budget.
Del. David Bulova (D-37) discuss the budget at a public hearing in Fairfax earlier this month.
