Press Release: EMILY’S LIST ENDORSES BARBARA FAVOLA AS “CHAMPION OF WOMEN'S RIGHTS”
For Immediate Release: Monday, October 5, 2015
Washington, DC - State Senator Barbara Favola (D-Arlington) received the endorsement of Emily’s List, which advocates for more female pro-choice representatives at all levels of public office. Sen. Favola is running for re-election in the 31st Senate District of Virginia, which extends from Arlington County through Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, along the Potomac River.
“Barbara Favola has been a tireless champion of women’s rights, and we are proud to support her reelection campaign to the state Senate,” said Senior Director at EMILY’s List, Jessica Post. “Senator Favola embodies why we need more women public servants. She continually fights against attempts to limit women’s health care options, and her legislation works to prevent domestic violence and campus sexual assaults.”
Sen. Favola on the endorsement: “Emily’s List is a highly respected and effective political organization and I am honored to have earned this endorsement. Rest assured, I will continue to fight to protect women’s rights in the General Assembly and I will always stand up to protect women’s reproductive freedom and a woman’s right to privacy in making these decisions.”
Sen. Favola serves as Senate Chair of the Women’s Reproductive Health Caucus. Since her election in 2011, she has patroned bills removing medically unnecessary requirements prior to receiving abortions, combatting sexual assault on college campuses, and removing firearms from offenders convicted of domestic violence misdemeanors.
Senator Barbara A. Favola represents Virginia’s 31st district, which includes parts of Arlington and Fairfax counties, and a portion of Loudoun County. For the 2015 session, Senator Favola served on the Local Government, Rehabilitation and Social Services, and Transportation Committees. She chairs the Sexual Assault Advisory Committee.
