Dear Friend,

I continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic in the district and throughout the Commonwealth.

It is critically important that everyone follow the public health recommendations noted below:

  1. frequently wash your hands for at least 20 seconds,

  2. cover your coughs with a tissue or your sleeve, not your hand

  3. avoid touching your face, and

  4. avoid close contact with symptomatic individuals and large groups.

Visit these websites often for continued updates on the virus: the Virginia Department of Health and the CDC. Or call 1(877)ASK-VDH3.

Although I remain disappointed that my bill to guarantee paid sick days for employees in Virginia did not pass the Senate, I will re-group with stakeholders and try again. Staying home when you or your children are sick is incredibly important to preventing the further spread of this virus. Moreover, employers must support this responsible behavior, particularly when it comes to their most economically vulnerable workers.

I am calling on Governor Northam to use the full extent of his emergency powers to contain this outbreak. This link is a statement recently issued by Governor Northam.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to my office with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
